1. About the recruitment for actors for “Utamaro Dochu”
We are currently looking for Japanese and foreign actors for “Utamaro Dochu”, a scene depicting a world created by the renowned Tochigi Ukiyo-e artist Utamaro Kitagawa. The event will take place on Saturday, November 2nd.
The actors will be playing characters from the Edo era so they will be using special wigs and kimonos.
There are 11 roles to be filled with men and women from fifth grade to 60 years of age. However, there are requirements for each role.

You must send pictures with the application.
Please apply by Friday, August 30th.

2. About the recruitment of Olympic Torch Runners
The recruitment of the 2020 Olympics torch runners started on July 1st.
25 people will be recruited from Tochigi prefecture.
Anyone that has some connection with Tochigi prefecture born before April 1st of 2008 can apply. Nationality and gender do not matter.
The application period ends Saturday, August 31st.
To apply, please visit the dedicated homepage for Tochigi and enter the required information to get the documents via mail or email.
The relay in Tochigi prefecture will take place on March 29th and 30th 2020 and it will pass through Tochigi City on the 29th.
The relay distance for each participant will be roughly 200 meters.
On the day of the relay, each runner will receive a uniform.
Additionally, besides applications through Tochigi, there are also 4 official sponsors recruiting runners: Coca Cola, Toyota, Nippon Life and NTT.
The application method depends on the company so please check each company’s website for more information.
3. About the Tochigi City Football Club
In Tochigi City, there’s a pro soccer club called “Tochigi Football Club”.
It belongs to the first division of the Kanto league and is aspiring to be part of J-league.
It used to be called “Tochigi Uva Football Club” but the name was changed this year.
“Tochigi Football Club” belongs to Tochigi City and practices at Iwafune Machi’s Artificial Turf Field.
During the day, they take part in PR events representing Tochigi City.
This year’s official matches will be held at the soccer field at Tochigi City Athletic Park.
The players will be transported by a dark blue team bus.
If you see the players, please cheer them on!
4. About the free viewing of Tochigi Kuranomachi Museum of Art
Tochigi Kuranomachi Museum of Art is very unique since it is comprised of three converted store houses built in the late Edo period more than 170 years ago.
As a special exhibition for the summer, the store houses will be emptied and open to the public free of charge so that the buildings themselves can be observed and appreciated.
The dates are from August 9th to the 16th, 9am to 5pm.
Please be aware that it will be closed on the 13th.
Tochigi Kuranomachi Museum of Art storehouses are some of the most impressive in the city left from the Edo period.
It is very rare to be able to carefully view the inside of these storehouses so please take advantage of this occasion.
5. About the Tochigi City Summer Festivals
There are several summer events happening in various parts of Tochigi City.
On Sunday, August 4th, from 2 to 9pm, the “Kuranomachi Summer Fest” will take place between the Main Avenue and Koraibashi.
There will be such events as dancing, Omikoshi, Ladder Cars, E-sport tournaments and calligraphy performances.
On Saturday, August 10th, 5:30pm to 9pm, the “Summer Fest in Iwafune 2019” will take place at the Iwafune Athletics Park.
There will be such events as an exciting Taiko performance and fireworks.
On Sunday August 11th from 3:30pm to 8:30pm, the “45th Tsuga Citizen’s dance and fireworks 2019”will be held at the Tsuga Athletics Park.
Dancing and fireworks both representative of summer festivals can be enjoyed.
