Report on the Seventh Activity

Happy New Year everyone! I sincerely hope that this year will be a wonderful one for all of you.
The Tochigi Kura no Machi Voluntary Night School started on January 5 with 22 students participating. This time, I myself spent a long hour with the elementary school students, and they were all very energetic and cheerful. The next session will be held on Sunday the 19th. Please come and join us.
I would like to introduce three staff members this time. Shuichi-san was a first-time participant, but he was quick to support foreign working adults in learning Japanese.

I have been participating in the Kura no Machi Voluntary Night School since its opening. I live in the eastern part of Utsunomiya City. It takes me more than one hour to get to Kura-no-Machi Voluntary Night School. I usually cannot get up early, but with the night school, I wake up at 6:00 a.m. without having to set my alarm. Perhaps I can wake up naturally when I think of the learners.
The learners range from elementary school students to ordinary working adults. I support working adults. Some have been in Japan for only a few months, while others have lived in Japan for more than 10 years.
Some of them have lived in Japan for many years but are not good at reading and writing, so I start with hiragana using a first grade elementary school textbook. As they learn hiragana, they voluntarily ask, “Sensei, teach me katakana next. I am encouraged by their attitude toward learning Japanese.

Ohashi shuichi

Hello everyone, my name is Shuichi Ohashi. The other day, I participated in a voluntary night school activity for the first time.
As my self-introduction, I would like to share my memories of Tochigi City. My grandfather and grandmother's house was located in Tochigi City. When I was in elementary school, I spent my summer vacation with my cousins living in Tokyo at my grandparents' house. We often played in the room with tatami mats and in the garden where trees grew. I have especially fond memories of taking a bath heated by firewood and sleeping under mosquito nets. Even now, I enjoy participating in festivals and the year-end rice cake pounding. I look forward to meeting you all in Tochigi City, which holds fond memories for me.

Tamang Debi Kumari

I have been participating in this program from the beginning. I am very grateful to TAMAKI sensei because I got an opportunity to participate as a staff member to volunteer this wonderful program. Actually, I'm an international student and I came from Nepal. After coming to Japan, I came to realise how much important the Japanese Language is to survive in Japan. This meeting program has been so helpful so far for me to unite and connect with Nepalese, Japanese, and others, most importantly the best part is teaching, learning, and writing Japanese and interaction with the children. I personally think this meeting program is life changing opportunity for all who wants to learn Japanese language.
